What the owners love
The current owners have put their touch to the property and there is a definite nod to luxurious lodges the world over; from the American west to chic alpine and even a touch of Italy and Africa.
Sentry Rock is a historic property that was originally charted by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1789. Built originally by infamous stock broker and media personality, Rene Rivkin, the lodge was later purchased and expanded by Australia’s father of fast food, Bob La pointe and more recently by its current owners, making it a unique retreat of unparalleled character and quality.
What we love
The history! This property has such a rich Australian history and we love being able to share that with you. In search of farming land that could save the colony at Botany Bay, Governor Philip led an expedition party and navigated the Hawkesbury River for the first time, spotting unique landmarks along the way to assist with charting the unknown territory. In one long, wide section of river, a large, unusually shaped rock loomed over the river like a Sentry Box; a guard house where a Sentry would stand to keep watch. The section of river was named Sentry Box Reach and the Sentry Rock today still stands guard over the unchanged river below, that remains the same untouched wilderness as it was when it was first named in 1789.
What groups of friends love
There is nothing better than getting out of Sydney and relaxing surrounds by nature with a few of your nearest and dearest friends. This high end luxury getaway is ideal for friends or families alike, accommodating up to twelve guests between the original and new wings. Perhaps the vibe which drifts throughout Sentry Rock is that of tepee chic with varnished warm tones and Aztec prints and furs that are splashed throughout the rooms, complementing the relaxing canvas white materials.
