Overview
Medusa is located on a quiet section of Darlinghurst Road between busy William Street and the even busier Oxford Street. This hotel has colour, style and has a stunning palate for your next photoshoot.
Medusa is set in a grand Victorian Italianate terrace, which was built in the early 19th Century. Its interiors were dramatically renovated in 1998 under the direction of award winning Australian architect Scott Weston. Darlinghurst is an urban village similar to New York’s ‘Soho’, with a unique inner city vibe where the locals are black clad youth leaders, who include artists, independent film makers and designers.
Grand buildings and modern monoliths blend wonderfully with converted terraces, surrounding this area. Prominent business identities share buildings with the creative, the fashionable. The tree-lined terraces and old funky maisonettes are the homes and headquarters for international film makers and studios including Bazmark at the Iona who are the makers of the films Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom, and Romeo and Juliet
Location:
Medusa shares this fashionable small strip along Darlinghurst Road with some of Sydney’s historical parks, national trust houses and slick urban developments. It is home to one of Sydney’s oldest and most beautiful churches – St Johns. Other landmarks include; The Garvan Institute, the space-age medical research centre; The Horizon, an ultra modern monolith designed by architect – Harry Seidler. Darlinghurst has a wonderful mix of fashion boutiques, homeware, gift and design shops, bookshops, galleries, curiosity shops, spas and salons are also notable.
