Bondi Hideaway

From $3000-$6000

Overview

This super cute three-bedroom home with period features is the ideal place to stay by the Beach. Ten minutes’ walk from the surf and sand of Bondi, it still feels like an old-school beach house with high ceilings, timber floors and a proper backyard.

Park up to two cars in the front driveway (a major advantage in parking-scarce Bondi), take the tiled steps past the cacti and step inside. You’ll feel at home right away. The house has a traditional design – a hallway that runs past the bedrooms to the sunny open-plan living area at the back – but has been fully modernised.

This is immediately apparent in the stylish mosaic-tiled bathroom with its rainfall shower head, but it’s most obvious in the living area, where blonde timber floors are offset by the striking calacatta marble kitchen with island bench and breakfast bar. The eight-seat dining table is perfect for family meals and sits beneath an original artwork by contemporary Australian painter Christopher Toth.

But it only gets better as you head out towards the garden. The 4K TV, sound system and huge comfy couch make vegging out a very attractive option. Would that be wrong while you’re here in Bondi? Only you can decide.

The outdoor living area has a strong pull as well. Just through the French doors and equipped with a family-size BBQ, outdoor fridge and full-size dining table, it’s an invitation to live the Aussie summer lifestyle. A motorised retractable awning means the sun won’t be a problem, and a hammock offers a place to kick back when guests go home. Kids will love playing on the lawn, which is sunny but shaded by a beautiful Magnolia.

The property also features portable Sonos speakers throughout, air-conditioning, heating, keyless entry, security cameras and a high chair. The spacious king master bedroom offers an incredibly comfortable Sealy Posturpedic mattress, while the queen bedroom has an equally comfy Koala mattress and cot. The study can be converted to a third bedroom.

What the owner loves
“There are so many great things about this house … I love this place so much and really miss it!” says the owner. And it’s not hard to see why: it’s in the perfect location. Minutes’ walk to the buzzy café, restaurant and nightlife scene of Hall Street, but far enough away to be quiet and private. This is how the Bondi locals live, and how you can too.

What we love
We love the mix of old and new in this gorgeous Bondi property. It’s got all the best of a period home, with high ceilings, light, air and character. But it also packs in the modern features and contemporary touches, from the art and fixtures to the appliances and furniture. The backyard and terrace are ideal for outdoor living and the air-con is a must in the Sydney summer. The best of both worlds!

What the active traveller loves
What’s not to love? This home puts you close to the beach and all the Bondi action, including all the bars, cafes and juice bars of Hall Street. The Bondi to Bronte clifftop walk is a must, along with a surfing lesson if you don’t ride already (there’s plenty of room for boards if you do). Yoga and Pilates aren’t hard to find, there are gyms aplenty and the famed Bondi Icebergs beckons for laps and a sauna. Get out there!

Cot and high chair provided at the home – on request for the third room if needed
