Getting There & Boat Transfers
Is the lodge water-access only?
Yes – Calabash Bay Lodge is only accessible by water, ensuring an exclusive and tranquil escape. Arrival and departure boat transfers are included and coordinated with our caretaker, Manny, who will meet you at Berowra Waters Public Wharf. Detailed instructions and maps are provided pre-arrival.
How long is the boat ride?
Approx. 10 minutes from Berowra Waters Public Wharf at 4 knots.
Is secure parking available?
Free, unrestricted public parking is available on Kirkpatrick Way. For added peace of mind, a secure car park (inc. trailer options) can be pre-booked via Berowra Waters Marina (daily fees apply).
Guest Boat Use
Is a boat included with the stay?
Yes – a 5-seater electric start runabout with fuel is provided for local use. Lifejackets and safety gear are included. Boat use is limited to daylight hours and local waters. Briefing and signed use agreement required at check-in.
Can I upgrade the boat?
Licensed drivers may upgrade to:
Premium 6-seater (90hp): $250 + GST/day
Owner’s 7-seater (150hp): $600 + GST/day

Bringing your own boat?
Welcome! We offer berthing for up to 2 boats. Boats up to 6m may use our private pontoon. Larger vessels must use our deepwater mooring. Please advise boat size in advance. Note: no houseboats or overnight guests on vessels permitted.

Where can I get supplies?
Berowra Waters Marina: Essentials, snacks, beer/wine (5–10 mins by boat).
Berowra Village (10 mins drive): Coles, butcher, bakeries, cafés.
Hornsby Westfield (30 mins drive): Major supermarkets and specialty stores.
Is the kitchen fully equipped?
Yes – high-end appliances, pantry basics, Nespresso machine, and complimentary chilled Oakridge Blanc de Blancs are provided. You’ll need to bring perishables, meats, fresh produce, and main meal ingredients.
Private Dining
Can I arrange private dining during my stay?
Yes – we offer the option of private in-lodge dining for an indulgent experience without lifting a finger. Our caretaker, Manny, can assist with organising a private chef or catered meals tailored to your preferences. Please contact him directly to discuss menus, dietary requirements, and availability in advance of your stay.
Swimming & Activities
Can we swim in the river?
Absolutely – dive off the private pontoon into the Hawkesbury (3–4m deep). Paddleboards and kayaks provided.
What if it rains?
Enjoy board games, Apple TV with a massive movie library, and all major streaming services. Take a bushwalk to the nearby Fretus Hotel ruins (15 mins).
Accessibility
Is the Lodge accessible?
There are approx. 20 wide stairs from the pontoon to the main living level, which includes a bedroom with ensuite, kitchen, living area, and deck. No handrails in the shower. Guests must be able to get in/out of a boat.
Families & Children
Is the Lodge family-friendly?
Yes – kids of all ages welcome. Lifejackets (children’s sizes), safety fencing, stair gates, two cots, two highchairs, and kid-friendly tableware included.
Sleeping Arrangements
Can the beds be split into singles?
Yes – two king beds can be converted into twins. One queen bed remains fixed. Let us know your preferred setup in advance.
Guests, Water & Wildlife
Can I have day visitors?
By request only, and strictly capped at 10 guests total (overnight + day visitors combined).
Is the tap water drinkable?
Yes – town water plus filtered chilled, boiling, and sparkling options.
Are bugs a problem?
Mosquitoes can appear in warmer months. We provide repellents, citronella, and flyscreens on most windows.
Fishing & Bait
Are fishing supplies provided?
Yes – rods, a crab pot, and some tackle. Feel free to bring your own. Bait is available en route and at Berowra Waters Marina.
How far from Sydney is the Lodge?
Approx. 45 mins to the CBD outside peak hour. Check Google Maps for live travel updates and best routes.
