Accommodation
When you think of a beach house, what do you picture? A fibro shack? Something a little more sophisticated?
Whatever you think of, it’s hard to imagine a property more breath taking than this one. Set over three enormous floors on a quiet cul-de-sac only 100 metres from the sand of Whale Beach, it gazes northward over the bay, the ocean and the Barrenjoey Peninsula to the north.
With decks and sliding doors on every level, the whole idea is to make the most of that outlook. Walking into the spectacular and palatial main floor from the driveway and lock-up garage, you’ll be struck by the expanse of blue as soon as you come in the door.
The next thing that will hit you is the practicality of the space – it’s the ideal spot for the family to gather thanks to its huge alfresco area, indoor dining space, fire pit and gorgeous entertainer’s kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances. Not only that, there’s a separate lounge area with space for the whole crew when nights are rainy or the call of Netflix gets too strong.
The sleeping quarters are mostly located upstairs, including the epic master bedroom with walk-in robe, private deck and en-suite. The other three bedrooms don’t miss out, though: all are north-facing with access to a beautiful, covered deck area.
The bedroom and family room downstairs are perfect for kids or teenagers, with plenty of space to play and access to the manicured garden. Five bathrooms (two of which are ensuites) and a laundry only add to the comfort factor. This home features stairs throughout and is not suited to people with mobility issues.
What the owner loves
The design of this house is so functional for groups and families. Separate living areas blend seamlessly into vast decks with full-length sliding doors designed to let in sunlight and sea breezes. There’s room here for everyone to have their own space, or to come together for meals and drinks in the spectacular main floor space.
What we love
This house obviously has gorgeous bones – the timber floors, the custom joinery built-ins, the enormous decks, the bold lines. But a recent interior redesign has turned it into something even more beautiful – a sophisticated, simple space filled with clean, fresh oceanside styling, original art and designer furniture.
What the active traveller loves
The perfect beach house needs to be on the perfect beach, and Whale Beach is just that. A little quieter than Palm Beach up the headland, it still feels like a classic seaside escape, despite being only an hour from Sydney. The perfect day here might involve a stroll down to the water for a morning swim, followed by coffee and the paper at the café. From there the world’s your oyster: yoga on the balcony, a bushwalk on Barrenjoey headland or kayaking in Pittwater are all on the menu. You’ll definitely earn that sunset drink.
