Accommodation

Turquoise water wraps around white sand at this private paradise that is a gift that keeps giving to all who experience it. Situated on Queensland’s exclusive East Bedarra Island, this private paradise and its surrounds has been featured in International magazines Wallpaper and Vogue Living.

A romantic nook off the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, this signature property is positioned on the water’s edge of a private two-acre estate. Doorila Cove has long been favoured by prominent artists, photographers, and writers inspired by the beautiful beach on the island.

A functional interior designed by renowned architect Robert Davidov is a marvel of playful modernism. The open plan lounge and dining area expands outwards to a large deck, all of which enjoy a stunning view of ocean and distant islands. The backdrop competes for your affection with a striking gin and cognac bottle feature wall, stone fireplace, bamboo panelling, and a collection of original bamboo furniture items handmade by prominent 20th century Australian artist Noel Wood.
The villa features two large bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to six guests between superior quality sheets. Connected via decking to a lower level, there is a separate King bedroom with an en-suite. An adjoined studio sleeps an additional two guests, while lovingly maintaining its almost century-old features. Additionally, an outdoor shower and toilet ensures that sand doesn’t follow you home.

With no public access and only a small number of private homes on the island, guests can unwind without any day-trippers or camera-happy tourists. A place of seclusion, but not isolation, our caretakers await your arrival by boat and look after your every whim in this self-catered paradise.

What the Owners love
Wander barefoot to swim in the warm, clear waters of the Coral Sea where you will find hundreds of species of tropic fish native to the reef. The property is complete with kayaks, snorkelling gear, and fishing rods and reels to be used at your leisure throughout your stay.

What We love
The island has a strong ethos of sustainability, and Noel Wood’s vision for the property has been born out by seamless integration of natural elements into its design. Set among 45 hectares of rainforest, this property is an express trip back to nature without skimping on any of life’s luxuries.

What the Romantic loves
A honeymooners haven, this is the perfect place to celebrate new love or affirm lasting romance. Think long walks on the beach, where there are only two sets of footprints, lazy afternoons on the sunny daybeds, before wandering for dinner in the evening with fellow like-minded guests on the island.

– Please note the 2x King bedrooms are located in the Villa with 1 bathroom and the separate pavilion has the king bedroom with en-suite and a queen sized day bed.
–Bedarra Island Villa accommodates a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children at all times

I could not recommend Dorilla...

“...beach house more!! I’m lucky enough to have visited multiple times now and can say that every time I return I discover new things that make it so special. We managed to see dugongs, rays, dolphins, turtles and a variety of sea life and coral right out our front door. Literally step out of the house and into the pristine water! Bedarra island contains all that Far North Queensland has to offer in a private and calming location! From snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding to exploring the quiet and phenomenal beaches and lookouts around the island you will never have so many A grade activities on your door step. Only rivalled by a glass of bubbles on the front deck and an afternoon siesta in the hammock. Adele and Stuart who organised our trip out, food and drink and took us on a lovely snorkelling adventure make the whole experience seamless! I can say without a doubt I’m already planning when I can next return to the island paradise! ”

The location is stunning...

“...With its back to the mainland, Doorila looks out to sea, but with a few tastefully situated small islands to dress the view. White sand, crystal water, nodding palm trees, abundant wildlife: we saw a dugong, rays, turtles, and a gazillion technicolor tropical fish. Snorkelling off the beach was very good, and there are kayaks, SUP, and so on, available to allow you a change of scene. The house is comprised of 3 individual pavilions, 2 at beach level, the 3rd a luxury house on stilts with the main kitchen and plenty of seating inside and out for our group. Each couple had their own pavilion, each building is unique. Taking a hot shower outside, with a view out into the bay - I will never forget this. The photos do not do the place justice, the finishes are high quality and pristine, eco-luxury. Despite being off-grid, but with fast Starlink internet, comfort was not compromised. Really can’t recommend it highly enough! ”

My husband and I stayed...

“...at this amazing property to celebrate our 50th Birthday. Stuart and Adele from Great Barrier Reef Safaris were our transfer to and from the island. They were so friendly and informative. They picked us up together with all our belongings and provisions for our stay. We highly recommend them as their boat is weather protected in case of rain or rough seas. The trip over to the island was a great run and we certainly got the WOW factor once we arrived. The location was so beautiful and private. We were greeted by the caretakers who got all our belongings off the boat and then up to the house. They helped us settle in and showed us around. The house itself was amazing. Being only a few metres from the beach, it overlooked the stunning turquoise blue bay and reef with beautiful views of palm trees and the rest of the island. We were extremely happy with everything. The house was beautifully furnished and presented, very clean and had everything (& more) that we needed. The kitchen was well equipped and the fridge and pantry well stocked. We loved dining on the top balcony while enjoying the views. The breeze was beautiful and we made use of the large bi-fold doors that opened up from the kitchen / lounge area to the balcony. There was lots of water sport equipment provided such as a large floaty ring, pool noodles, foldout picnic table, reef shoes, life/floatation jackets, paddles for the kayaks and stand up paddle board, fishing rods & more. Basically, everything you needed to enjoy the beach and the ocean. It was like we were on a deserted island. We had the beach all to ourselves and only saw 2 other couples during our stay that had walked down to look at the beach for 5 minutes before walking back to their accommodation. Watching the sunrise from the beach was amazing. We walked up to the lookout twice to enjoy the vast views over the ocean as well as exploring every inch of the beach & large boulders that we could at low tide. many hours were spent relaxing on the beach and floating away in the water. We had so much fun….we were like kids in a candy shop! Our experience at Peter & Lindy’s property was one that we will truly remember forever. We did not want to leave and are already planning on coming back. We are so glad we discovered this hidden gem! ”

Perfect for families my daughter...

“...took her first steps at Bedarra Island Villa. The beach is magic and great for little ones as the sand gradient is slow letting them play all day long whilst the big kids sit on the beach or have a fish from the rock. Am sure as the kids get older they can enjoy the SUP and Kayak as well but not this time. Would be nice with a group of friends too! ”
