Looking for a great family getaway destination a short drive away from Sydney?

Look no further than the Central Coast.

The area is just north of Sydney and its largest town Gosford is a central hub in a network of charming towns, beachside villages and secluded spots that the entire family will enjoy. Plus with our amazing Central Coast properties for hire, you’re sure to find the perfect base for an unforgettable family getaway.  Read on to find out the top family attractions on the Central Coast

Wonderful beaches to swim, explore and relax

The Central Coast offers plenty of beaches to enjoy—picking a favourite is impossible. Terrigal Beach offers a cosmopolitan dining and shopping strip to entice you after a swim. The Entrance Beach has two paddling pools, making it perfect for younger children (don’t miss the pelican feeding sessions).  Umina Beach has picturesque views from every angle and a fabulous recreation reserve nearby, with skate ramps, tennis courts and playground.  The scenic Copacabana Beach is a local favourite thanks to its low key vibe and smattering of small cafés nearby. It’s not just the beaches, the many lakes of the Central Coast have plenty of attractions too.

Great water-based activities on the Central Coast:

Thrill seekers: report for duty

Treetops in Wyong Creek offers a series of hair-raising yet fun obstacle courses set amongst stunning natural scenery. Children aged three to nine will love the dedicated two hour session that takes them through a series of challenges, including rope ladders, wobbly bridges, nets and tunnels. Teens will relish the series of exhilarating tree-based obstacles that get increasingly challenging as they progress through the course.

See the majestic views of the Central Coast from above with a scenic flight from Microlight Adventures. This unique experience includes flying in a completely open weight shift aircraft—and perhaps the chance to take the controls if you dare!

For those aged ten and above, try flying over water with a jetpack experience from Jetpack Adventures. A lesson with an expert instructor will teach you how to control your jetpack so you can soar above water and even perform a few tricks.

Activities for the entire family

Magical mazes and friendly animals await you at Amazement Farm and Fun Park. Find your way out of several mazes, enjoy a pony ride, pack a picnic and meet the farm animals.

Get up close and personal with the locals at the Australian Reptile Park, where you can meet a wide variety of Aussie snakes, lizards and spiders as well as wombats, bats, platypus, dingoes, echidnas, cassowaries and wallabies.

If you’d like to explore the local rainforests and breathtaking natural scenery, your options are endless. Each town on the Central Coast has numerous trails for mountain biking, road biking, hiking and even segways. You can also explore under the waves with a scuba diving trip to investigate the fascinating sunken ex HMAS Adelaide with Pro Dive Central Coast.

Restaurants

A treasure trove of dining options awaits you on the Central Coast.

There’s a number of gastronomic pubs with terrific kids menus to choose from. And of course, a huge choice of seafood restaurants, from local fish and chips to high-end seafood dining spots. Lovers of Italian, Thai, French, Indian and Mexican restaurants are spoiled for choice, as are those who enjoy modern Australian cuisine. And every beach side town or regional hotspot hosts a number of charming cafés, coffee shops and bakeries  for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. It’s a gastronomes delight.

Our favorite places to recommend include:

All this and so much more!

National parks and state forests, museums, galleries

We haven’t even mentioned the golf, shopping, national parks and state forests, museums, galleries, breweries, day spas, gardens, salons, markets, historic monuments, wineries and aboriginal heritage tours—the attractions of the Central Coast are truly endless.  And if you want to explore further afield, the Hunter Valley is a short drive away, as is Newcastle to the north.
